Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are software programs used by companies to filter and rank job applications. These systems analyze resumes based on keywords, formatting, and relevance to the job description. To increase your chances of getting an interview, follow these essential formatting and content guidelines.
✔ Use only standard characters – Special characters and accented words can confuse ATS algorithms. ✔ Avoid punctuation in your name – Refrain from using symbols such as ( ), /, or -.
✔ Use a single-column format – No tables, multiple columns, or text boxes.
✔ Choose readable fonts – Safe options include Arial, Georgia, Tahoma, Calibri, and Verdana.
✔ Ensure readable text size – Use 11-point font or larger.
✔ Use the correct date format – Always include months when listing employment history (e.g., 06/2018 – 08/2022) and place dates on the right side of the page.
